Community Speed Watch |
||
|
Good Morning, Community Speed Watch (CSW) is a road‑safety initiative in which trained local volunteers work alongside the police to monitor vehicle speeds in areas of concern. The scheme aims to reduce speeding, increase driver awareness, and improve community safety. Volunteers use approved equipment—typically handheld speed detection devices—to record vehicles travelling above the speed limit. The details of offending vehicles are then passed to the police, who may issue warning letters, provide targeted enforcement, or use the data to inform future road‑safety activity. The presence of Speed Watch volunteers acts as a visible deterrent to speeding and helps communities play an active role in addressing local traffic concerns. While volunteers do not have enforcement powers, their involvement supports police efforts by gathering intelligence and promoting safer driving behaviour. The afternoon of Wednesday 18th March 2026, two of our volunteers carried out Speed Watch on Station Road, Brompton. Our volunteers spent just over an hour at the location , recorded 102 vehicles and not one vehicle was over 30mph.
